Salary: $100,000 + Super

The Opportunity

Are you a conservation professional looking to make a tangible difference in the community? We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Conservation Officer to lead critical environmental and sustainability programs. This is a Band 6 role designed for a specialist who enjoys balancing strategic policy development with high-impact, on-the-ground project delivery.

The Role

In this position, you will be the primary lead for conservation initiatives specifically related to native vegetation, climate change, and pest/plant management. You will provide expert advice across the organization and act as the main point of contact for environmental projects delivered by both the organization and community groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Management: Develop and lead strategies and projects related to native vegetation and agriculture.

  • Roadside Weed & Pest Control: Drive the delivery of Roadside Weed and Pest Programs, ensuring effective management of invasive species.

  • Contractor Oversight: Manage external contractors, including spray contractors, to ensure high-quality service delivery and safety.

  • Acquittals & Reporting: Conduct research and write technical reports, including completing acquittal reports for funded projects.

  • Climate Action: Contribute to sustainability goals by assisting with the development and maintenance of an emissions inventory.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong partnerships with government agencies, regional bodies, and the local community.

What You Bring

You are a subject matter expert with a proven track record in managing native vegetation and weed programs. You possess the interpersonal skills required to gain cooperation from a wide range of stakeholders and the technical ability to interpret complex regulations.

Selection Criteria:

  • Qualifications: A degree or equivalent qualification in environmental management, conservation, sustainability, or science. Candidates with equivalent extensive professional experience are also encouraged to apply.

  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience in developing conservation programs related to native vegetation and pest/plant management.

  • Sustainability Knowledge: Experience in sustainability programs, including energy and water efficiency or climate change initiatives.

  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write reports in your field of expertise.

  • Project Management: The ability to manage time, set priorities, and plan your own work to meet specific objectives.

  • Desirable: An accredited assessor of Vegetation Quality Assessment (DEECA) or the ability to obtain this accreditation.
